Rava Upma Recipe
Popular south-Indian dish made with roasted semolina cooked with sauteed vegetables and tempered with mustard seeds, curry leaves, roasted lentils, and ginger.
Ingredients
Instructions
  1. Dry roast the sooji till starting to get golden, and keep aside in a bowl. Ready 3 cups water, and onions, veggies, peanuts, lemon, and dry red chilies.
  2. Heat Coconut oil, add dry red chili, mustard seeds, (grated ginger if adding), and let them splutter. Add curry leaves. Add onion (if adding potato add now) cook till translucent. Add carrots and cook until soft. Add beans and cook till soft.
  3. Now add salt and pepper powder. Cook for a few seconds. And add 3 cups of water. Let the water come to a boil then start adding the sooji with one hand and keep stirring with the other hand. Once all sooji goes in the pan add peanuts, lemon juice, and keep mixing. Stir till water evaporates and sooji upma leaves sides.
  4. Put this hot upma in a Katori/bowl greased with oil. Now put this Katori upside down on the serving plate and remove Katori. Garnish with coconut powder and serve.
Recipe Notes

I personally do not like the ginger flavor in Upma so did not add to the ingredients. But if you like, please add in the hot oil with tempering.
