Kids Tiffin Ideas- Ready in 20 Minutes

This has to be my favorite post. After all, the only reason i ventured into serious cooking is for my kids .Am a very protective Mom as far as the Food and its health quotient is concerned.And that drives me to find new options for them to enjoy their tiffin and provide them full nutrition at the same time. Its not that we do not eat things like pasta, pizza,noodles etc. But we have segregated our days .We do Healthy weekdays and Fun Weekends.And since my son has two breaks i also have to make it a filling one.

 

 

Presenting the Tiffin Option No:3

  • Healthy hung-curd Vegetable Col-saw Wheat Bread Sandwich.
  • Sapodilla ( cheeku) & Plums (Fruit section)- Take fruits of your preference.
  • Oats and semolina vegetable Idlis with the goodness of beetroot.
  • Fresh Coconut Chutney- Instant
  • Sweet potato cutlets

You may prepare the chutney and the col saw a night before and make sweet potato mixture too beforehand to save time in the Morning.Then bringing together the Idlis and the rest is just a 20 minutes Affair.

The other Kids Tiffin Ideas : Lunch Box Option /Kids Tiffin Idea 4- Made under 15 minutes.

Wholewheat Pan Cake Pops-Lunch Box Idea , Broccoli Poha / flattened Rice Idli,    Wholewheat Broccoli Indian Flat Bread/Parantha with Flaxseed,   Sesame and Beetroot Curd.  My kids just Loved this option and i hope your’s like it too.

IDLI ->

Summary

  • Preparation Time: 5 mins
  • Cooking Time: 12 mins

Ingredients

1/2 cup plain roasted Oats
1/2 cup semolina
1/2 cup curd
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp + 1/4th tsp soda bicarbonate
1/4 cup th chopped carrots
3 tbsps chopped green capsicum
1/4 cup th grated beetroot
water for consistency
For Tempering
1 tsp vegetable oil
1/2 tsp mustard seed
1/2 tsp chopped green chillies chopped (optional)
3 – 4 curry leaves
Steps
  1. Mix all the ingredients for Idli Except: Soda -Bi- Carb in a bowl. Keep aside.
  2. For tempering: heat oil in a pan .Add mustard seeds and let them splutter.add the curry leaves and pour this tempering into the Idli mix. Now add the Soda-Bi-Carb and mix well.
  3. Grease the Idli stand and pour the batter equally into each cavity. Steam these into a steamer or pressure cooker without whistle( as per your choice) for 10-15 minutes or till done.
  4. Serve hot with fresh coconut instant chutney.

SWEET POTATO CUTLETS->

Ingredients

1 cup sweet potato boiled
1 green chilli chopped (optional)
2 – 3 tbsps cornflour
1/2 tsp garam masala
to taste salt
1/2 tsp kashmiri chili powder (to taste)
1/2 tsp chaat masala
1/4 tsp lemon juice
to fry oil

Steps

  1. Mix all the ingredients in a bowl.
  2. Please make sure that while boiling you do not put excess water as we do not water the sweet potato to soak too much water.
  3. Make small disc like cutlets and keep aside.
  4. Heat a pan and put 2-3 tbsp oil and fry these cutlets on medium flame on both sides.
  5. Pack these delicious cutlets in your kids tiffin with his favorite sauce.

COCONUT DIP ->

Ingredients

1/2 cup fresh coconut pieces
1/4 cup roasted peanuts
to taste salt
1 small green chilli
coconut water for consistency
1/4 cup curd
1/2 tsp oil

Steps

  1. Put all the ingredients in a mixture and grind fine.Put as much coconut water as much you need for the consistency of the sauce/chutney.
  2. You can store this chutney in the refrigerator for about a week.

SANDWICH ->>

Ingredients

For Cole saw
1/2 cup hung curd
2 tbsps mayonnaise
to taste salt
1/2 tbsp blackpepper powdered
1/2 tsp powdered sugar
1/2 tsp lemon juice
1 tsp olive oil
1 tbsp onion chopped
1 tbsp green capsicum chopped
1/2 tsp garlic chopped
1 tbsp Carrot chopped
1 tbsp cabbage chopped
For sandwich
2 slices of whole wheat bread ( remove sides)
2 purple/ green salad leaves
1 cheese slice

Steps

  1. Mix all the ingredients in a bowl.
  2. While making a sandwich, put the salad leaves .Then put the cheese slice and the apply the Cole saw on the slice and spread nicely.
  3. Cut into two portions and pack that yummy sandwich into the tiffin.
  4. I also give Yakult into the tiffin to drink( its completely optional.
