Bulgur /Peas and Onion porrige/Daliya

A healthy start to a healthy and fulfilling Day!

Bulgur as popularly called in Turkish or Daliya as known in India is the most common cereal in India and Europe. Its high nutritional value makes it a perfect breakfast option. Daliya in India is prepared in very many ways. Sweet, salty, khichdi with pulses or vegetable daliya with seasonal veggies and fruit daliya with milk and fruits. Its many uses include breads, patties, snacks, halwa and many more. It’s such a versatile food and so rich in proteins that you must include it in your diet if you haven’t already.

Daliya/Bulgur/Porridge has been an integral part of our meals ever since I remember. As children, we had this staple breakfast of either sweet or savory daliya every day. We could add another dish but, Daliya was a must to have .We normally used to alternate the sweet and savory porridge through the week and loved it so much that we never thought of changing it to anything else. I think it really helped us in many ways. It’s light and healthy and gives you complete energy for the rest of the day. Daliya Halwa/Bulgur pudding was another dish very close to my heart. It tastes so heavenly and it’s mostly prepared and is a part of some special ceremonies in some parts of India. I have some very fond memories of eating this pudding as a kid. That can actually make a full post …Lol.

This Peas & Onion Daliya is our favorite. It’s very simple to prepare and has a mild flavor of black pepper. It’s rich as it’s prepared in clarified butter/Ghee. One must have 1 tbsp. of Desi ghee / clarified butter every day. It’s very important for the bones and other functions of the body.
