I prepare this Kadha whenever my kids get cold or cough. Best served hot. Also, this works best for digestive malfunctions too. In short, it’s an all in one remedy for all digestion based ailments. In winters even golden milk or turmeric milk or turmeric latte works best. You may call it by various names, but its healing properties remain unchanged. You may find the recipe on my blog. As per Ayurveda, food intake during cold and cough should also be selective and light. It is advisable to have food which is light to digest, does not affect the system harshly, and contributes to reducing phlegm. The more bread, rich food, and spices you eat, you tend to worsen the situation inside your body.  The following are some of the guidelines for meals during cold and cough.

  1. Eat freshly cooked food. Preferably hot and within 1.5 hours of cooking.
  2. Chew your food well.
  3. Eat small portions.
  4. Intermittent fasting of 8 hours is also advisable in some cases. (based on your body type)
  5. Eat easily digestible meals.
  6. Eat less all-purpose flour.
  7. Use only salt, black pepper, and turmeric till the cold lessens or you feel better.
  8. Keep sipping onto hot water or any hot liquids like soups, tea to feel better.
  9. Avoid Milk and dairy products.
  10. Apply some mustard oil on your nostrils and ears (outside). It helps in opening a blocked nose.

These are some general guidelines but may differ from person to person. It’s advisable to follow your body type and eating habits to avoid any issue.

Kadha | Best remedy to treat Cold, cough and flu is an easy recipe and provides instant relief for many ailments.

Ingredients

Instructions

  1. In a saucepan, add all the ingredients except honey.
  2. Switch on the flame and boil on simmer covered till only 3/4th remains.
  3. Then add honey and it ready to drink.
  4. Consume hot sip by sip for best results.
  5. Do not consume any other liquid or eatable till 1/2 hour post consuming kadha.Take this twice a day for best effect.

Recipe Notes

We took 1 1/2 cup water. Boil the kadha on simmer till you get 1 cup left.
