How to Make a VEGAN version of Aval Payasam:

Just replace the milk with coconut milk and instead of roasting the nuts and poha in Ghee, you can use coconut oil or vegan butter.

  1. Wash the poha and drain and keep aside. Heat ghee in a pan.
  2. Fry the dry fruits and melon seeds and keep them aside. fry only till golden brown.
  3. Now, add the poha to the pan and saute for 2 minutes.
  4. Add the milk and bring it to a boil.
  5. Now add the milk powder and boil till it thickens a bit. If the consistency is still very liquidy, then add 1 more tbsp milk powder.
  6. Add the dry fruits and coconut powder and mix. Simmer the flame.
  7. Now add the jaggery water through a sieve.
  8. Mix well and shut the flame.
  9. Garnish with pistachios and coconut powder and serve hot.
