Navratri /Fasting Special Recipe- Baked ,Vegan and gluten Free
Navratri Celebrations have begun. For all you who do not know what Navratri festival is all about,it is a festival dedicated to the worship of Hindu deity Durga. Navratri literally means ‘nine nights’ and each day is devoted to nine different Devi’s. Navratri falls twice in a year once in march during spring and again during Oct-Nov ,during Fall. We celebrate this festival with a lot of zeal all over India, but most people observe fasting in north of India. Navratri Fasting demands a no grain,no onion and no garlic meals.People usually eat and prepare their meals with either buckwheat flour, water-chestnut flour and samak flour or rice and sago/tapioca.In vegetables, pumpkin/butternut squash, potato, tomato and colocasia roots /arbi are a few permitted while observing a Fast. A fruit based diet is ususally followed ,hence the buckwheat flour and others are used.
But a restriction on the ingredients ,doesn’t spread over the recipes and ways one can enjoy their fasting. There are plenty of recipes likeKuttu Ki kachori, Sago/Tapioca Pudding, Sweet and sour Pumpkin/Butternut squash ,Kuttu Dosa/Vrat Dosa, Samak Ke Kabab and many more. The list is endless.
So this year i thought i’ll experiment with a few less calorie options as well.Hence,my experiment with a Mezze Platter,Why not? I took pumpkin,my absolute favorite veggie during fall and the flours and voila, this recipe was born.May i say, these delicious, crunchy with a subdued pumpkin flavored tortilla chips were super tasty and healthy too. When we talk about tortilla chips,we ought to have a Dip alongside. Now, i had a challenge, its a fasting recipe and i cannot use garlic. I MADE THESE ABSOLUTELY TO DIE FOR DIPS! Believe me when i say that.I just fell in love with these.Specially, because its a fasting day and making a dip without onion and garlic could have been challenging. But believe me the outcome was more than a pleasure. You have to make it to believe it.So no more waiting go ahead and look at the recipes as under and enjoy the Mezze platter. You’ll surely relish it as much as i did. And yes these DIP’s can me make for any party or get together with any savory chips or tortilla chips. They’ll do wonders in elevating your snack served.
The Mezze Platter consists of Pumkin and tortilla Chips, Pumpkin Appe,Tomato Chilli Dip and a little sweet Peanut dip to balace the flavors. Happy Fasting!
