Cucumber Raita recipe | Kheera Raita recipe. A step-by-step picture recipe.A popular Raita recipe that gives company to vegetarian and non-vegetarian delights. Like our very own Mutton Biryani, Paneer Dum Biryani in the Oven, Paneer Biryani, Chicken Biryani, and Kali Mirch Pilaf. 

 

It’s a Desi version of the Mediterranean dish  Tzatziki. Which is made with greek yoghurt mixed with garlic, mint, salt and pepper topped with some lemon juice. And in Cucumber Raita, we used normal yoghurt. Garlic is optional. Normally, it’s not added. But, it is a personal choice.

How to make Cucumber Raita?

  1.  Wash, peel and grate the cucumber. Press between your hands and squeeze to release its water. Keep aside.
  2. Beat the yoghurt till no lumps. Add sugar, salt, bhuna jeera/roasted cumin powder. Break some mint leaves with your hand and add to this mix.
  3. Add the squeezed cucumber. Mix well. Garnish with red chilli powder, bhuna jeera and coriander leaves.

  1. Beat the curd. Add sugar, salt, mint leaves, cucumber, and jeera powder (2 tsp). Mix well. Do not add water before this step as after adding salt the cucumber also releases water. Once it has released water then see if more water is required.
  2. This raita is thick and not watery like boondi raita, so add water wisely.
  3. Garnish with jeera powder. some mint and coriander leaves and red chili powder. Served chilled.
